UNCTAD GENERALISED PREFERENCE. SCHEME

1. We have just received from DTI a supply of offprints of a descriptive article on the GPS which appeared in "Trade and Industry" on 24 March. This article (composed by CRE1) is still the best reasonably concise "unclassified" account of the GPS available and you may find it useful to keep the attached copy for reference purposes.

Since the article was published the EEC have announced that they will implement their scheme from 1 July. Enabling legisla- tion for our own scheme is included in the Finance Bill, at present before Parliament, with a view to our being in a position to introduce the UK generalised preference scheme before the end of the year:
