AMONG THE SEVEN LEFTIST PRISONERS WHO WERE GRANTED AN EARLY RELEASE, THERE WERE SOME WHO HAD PLANTED BOMBS DURING THE 1967 DISTURBANCES.

THE PRESENT CROP OF BOMB INCIDENTS HAS MADE PEOPLE START WORRYING AGAIN. EVERYBODY BELIEVES THAT THE DIGNITY OF THE LAW MUST BE UPHELD.

Most of those who were recommended for early release last week were leftists who had threatened public safety in 1967. Coincidentally, a spate of bomb incidents occurred recently and this gave rise to criticism of the Government policy in recommending the early release of prisoners who had also been convicted of bomb-planting offences. of the seven leftists who were released, one of them was originally sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and three to 7 or 8 years but, they were all released early.

Those who are concerned about the safety and security of Hong Kong saying that this Government policy needs to be examined. Undeniably

Hong Kong has gained great prosperity since the 1967 disturbances and Sino-British relations have also improved. However, the dignity of the law of Hong Kong must be maintained and people's faith in the future of the Colony depends on peace and security within her boundaries. No matter what happens, the Hong Kong Government must respect the opinions of the majority of Hong Kong people and uphold the dignity of the law.
