I have the honour to inform you that I have appointed Mr. J. L. Marden, J. P., provisionally and subject to Her Majesty's pleasure, to be an Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council with effect from 29th July 1971 during the absence from the Colony of Mr. H. J. C. Browne, J. P.

Mr. Marden is the Chairman and Managing Director of Wheelock Marden & Co., Ltd. He has not previously served on the Legislative Council.
