hopes to establish a transmitter in Singapore to

General assessment
There is a strong case for a concentrated,
commercially-orientated information effort in
Singapore. Apart from our economic interests,
which are considerable, the Singaporeans, unlike
the Malaysians, tend to be hard-headed and
realistic businessmen who are responsive to
business methods. Whereas therefore political
information work should play a prominent part in
our information work in Malaysia, the emphasis
in Singapore should be overwhelmingly commercial.
and the image built up of Britain as an important
and vigorous trading partner.
Information Section in Singapore, as now
reconstituted, is settling down well to this and
no changes are recommended.
