We are about to start our annual exercise of planning next year's Estimates (1972/73) for Overseas Information.

For this purpose we divide the world into four geographical areas and hold meetings between the Information Departments, Flanners and Geographical Departments to assess the efforts of the BBC External Services, British Council and Official Information Services, including COI, and to plan priorities for the following year's operations. These internal meetings are chaired by the Under-Secretary responsible, Mr. Reddaway, and in the past Heads of Departments have attended. There follow meetings with the ODA and the Agencies themselves to work out the financial implications of the FCO's priorities.

Provisional dates for this year's regional meetings have been set as follows for meetings at 3 p.m. in the India Office Council Chamber

There will be a "round up" meeting on Friday, 24 September of the Information Departments to prepare for subsequent discussions with the ODA and Information Agencies.
4. Papers will be prepared on Information work in each country by the Regional Officers of GIPD. These will be circulated to all those attending the meetings five days before they are held.
5. I should be grateful if Heads of Departments to whom this minute is addressed could note these dates and if possible attend the meetings or be represented by some one who can speak for their whole Department.
