To fill the eighth seat for an Official Member of the Legislative Council I have appointed Mr J. C. C. Walden, J. P., provisionally and subject to Her Majesty's pleasure, with effect from 7th July 1971.

Mr Walden's substantive appointment is currently Deputy Commissioner for Resettlement. He will act in the post of Commissioner from 7th July 1971 until about 4th September 1971 when Mr I. M. Lightbody becomes the new substantive Commissioner (paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 of my telegram 381 are relevant).
