SIE CHO-YIU KWAN
1. I reported yesterday that I had heard unofficially of the
death of Sir Cho-yiu Kwan. We have now received Sir Murray
MacLehose's telegrams Nos 916 and 919.
2. Sir Cho-yiu Kwan was, at his death, the senior Chinese
member of the Executive Council. Sir David Trench held him
in high regard and described him as being a careful and thoughtful
person, the most articulate and useful of the Chinese members
of the Council whose advice was always valuable and who was
active and helpful outside the Council.
3.
Sir Cho-yiu Kwan was 64 when he died. He was first appointed
a member of the Legislative Council in 1959 and a member of the
Executive Council in 1961.
