1. You may know that the Secretariat sent to Sir Murray MacLehose in April a large quantity of briefing material for his use in bringing himself up-to-date on the affairs of Hong Kong. Sir Murray has left some of this material with me for forwarding to Government House where he hopes it may form part of a ready- reference library for his use when he takes up his new duties.
2. Most of the material, however, consists of published booklets which I am sure will e readily available to you, and in order to save the expense of sending them back to Hong Kong I suggest it would be better, if you agree, for you to obtain copies of these for Sir Murray. I enclose a list.
3. Some of the material may, however, te more difficult to obtain so I am sending this to you direct. A list of this material is also enclosed.
