Royal Visits Committee

Proposed Visit by HRH Princess Alexandra to Hong Kong

and Malaysia) in 1970

Mr Mayall's attached circular asks for particulars,

by 9 June, of any additions or deletions that Departments

wish to make to the proposed programme of inward and

outward Royal Visits for 1970 and 1971. Hong Kong

Department have no additions or deletions to recommend,

but there are two proposals in the programme which con-

cern us:

a possible visit by Princess Alexandra to

to Hong Kong and Malaysia, probably in late

1970.

(ii) a possible visit by The Queen and the Duke

of Edinburgh to Singapore, Malaysia and

Thailand in January, 1971.

(i), I attach the submission which was prepared

for the last meeting of the Royal Visits Committee on

18 February. On that occasion the Committee "agreed

to reconsider at a later stage the proposals for visits

to Fiji (which would depend on the political situation

in the Island), to California, to Argentina (for the

Trade Fair) and for Princess Alexandra to Malaysia

and Hong Kong: it might be possible for two or more

of these visits to be combined."
