НКК 26/1

CONFIDENTIAL
Hong Kong Department,
14 July, 1970.
Bunny Carter wrote to you in his letter, HKK 26/1 of 16 March, about the possibility of a visit by HRH Princess Alexandra to Hong Kong during 1970.
We have just heard that the Royal Visits Committee, at its meeting on 30 June, decided that it would be preferable for the proposed visit to be deferred from October, 1970, until next spring.
I am afraid that this is all the information we have at the moment, but perhaps you will let us know whether a visit next spring would be likely to present you with any problems. We should like to be in a position to follow this matter up as and when opportunity occurs and it would be helpful if you could let us know whether there are any particular periods which should be avoided for the purposes of the visit.
Since the matter is still very much in the air, I think it would be wiser if you did not mention it to your unofficial advisers at this stage.
