COLONIAL SECRETARIAT. HONG KONG.
11 July 1970
Please refer to Carter's letter to the Governor HKK 26/1 of 16th March, 1970, and to your letter to Sir Hugh TXV 13/393/1 of 17th June, 1970, concerning the possibility of H.R.H. Princess Alexandra visiting the Colony later this year.
Since we have not heard whether the Royal Visits Committee came to any conclusion we assume that no visit is possible this year. If this is the case may we suggest that the Committee should consider the possibility of a visit in 1971?
As you are aware the main reason for the visit is not the opening of the Royal Life Saving Society Youth Centre to be named after Lord Mountbatten but is connected with H.R.H's appointment as Commandant General of the Royal Hong Kong Police Force. Further details are set down in the notes of the Governor's discussions at the F.C.O. in November 1969 as Domestic Item 6.
