Secretary to the Foreign Secretary. In 1967 he was appointed H.M.

Ambassador at Saigon. He was appointed H.M. Ambassador in Copenhagen

in November 1969.

In 1947 he married Margaret Noel Dunlop. They have twin

daughters born in 1949.

Mr. MacLehose was made an M.B.E. in 1945 and a C.M.G. in 1964.

GOVERNOR-DESIGNATE IS AN OLD FRIEND OF HONG KONG

The Governor, Sir David Trench, said today that he was very pleased

to hear of the appointment of Mr. MacLehose as Governor-designate in

Hong Kong.

"He is an old friend of mine, but, more important, he is an old

friend of Hong Kong," the Governor said. "He has served here, and has

been in various other posts which kept him in touch with our affairs.

I am delighted to know that when I depart in twelve months' time, I shall

be leaving Hong Kong in such competent hands."

MR. MACLEHOSE'S MESSAGE TO HONG KONG

The following message has been received in Hong Kong from

Mr. MacLehose:

"We are both delighted. I have always had the greatest admiration

for Hong Kong and its achievements and feel deeply honoured by the

opportunity to serve there in succession to such a distinguished governor.

My wife and I have the happiest recollections of Hong Kong and look forward

to living there again and seeing again the many friends we have there."
