Document No. 19
RECORD OF A PRESS CONFERENCE GIVEN BY THE RIGHT HON. GEOFFREY RIPPON, QC, MP, CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER, ON ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND AIRPORT ON 17 SEPTEMBER, 1970
Question: Can you spell out, Sir, exactly what you regard as a satisfactory agreement?
Mr. Rippon: Certainly not. Of course I can't do that. We are going into the negotiations on the basis that there is a special problem of New Zealand. I think this has been recognised right from the outset, not only by the United Kingdom but by the Community themselves. As a special problem, we've got to look at it in depth and we've got to find the sort of solutions that can't be covered entirely as other people's problems may be, simply by transitional arrangements.
