Effect of improved labour conditions on
Hong Kong's trade
Hong Kong has shown that her industry is both competitive and flexible and that it can produce a wide range of high
quality goods. The Colony should have nothing to fear from
embracing improved labour conditions and modern technology,
both of which go hand in hand.
From Hong Kong's trading figures there appears to be
no evidence whatever that her exports have been affected
by improving labour conditions.
The improvement in Britain's balance of payments and the possibility of investment and joint enterprises in Hong Kong
Britain's balance of payments position has been
improving, and we hope this will continue, but of course
much progress has still to be made, and we cannot afford
to relax the measures that have led to this welcome
development.
Investment in Hong Kong by private individuals
or business concerns in the U.K. is entirely a matter for
these individuals or concerns.
