11. QUESTION:

There is considerable feeling in Hong Kong,

particularly among our industrialists and merchants, that

Britain's entry into the Common Market will have a serious

effect on the well-being of our economy.

Would you

comment on this, please?

ANSWER:

It is not possible at this stage to foretell in any

detail how the position of Hong Kong may be altered by

Britain's entry into the Common Market. I can assure you

that we shall have the interests of Hong Kong in mind in

our approach to the EEC.
