The Board of Trade have been aware of this project for some time. However, nothing has yet been finalised and I have heard doubts expressed about whether it will go ahead at all. The problem, inevitably, is one of money, and any intervention by M.T.S. and E.C.G.D. will be welcome both in mobilising the project and in ensuring the use of British equipment.

Freeman Fox, the Consulting Engineers, produced an elaborate scheme some 3 years ago which provided for four separate lines. This has since been modified - I believe by chopping off the extension to Sha Tin and shortening the Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan Lines. I have not, however, seen any formal reports on these proposals. The only other recent development has been the visit of the Hon. Szeto Wai, Chairman of Hong Kong's Transport Advisory Committee, in April, when he was given lunch by London Transport and the Board of Trade, and saw the Victoria Line. Shephard's proposed visit failed to matérialise, as you know.
