Bid for Hongkong contract
A consortium of British companies has been formed to bid for a huge Hongkong underground railway contract, according to "Export Times." The project, worth up to £300 millions, is almost certain to be approved by the Hongkong Government, probably by the end of this year, according to the magazine. It would be put out to tender as a complete package.
The Japanese will also bid, and local opinion favours them. They are level pegging with the British on everything but credit terms.
The Hongkong Government's consulting engineers for the pro- ject, Freeman Fox and Partners | of London, said yesterday thai! it had submitted an advanced feasibility study of a 40 mile first stage costing £100 millions and a total system costing £250 millions.
British companies likely to be among those interested in the project include Kinnear Moody, Mitchell Bros., Balfour Beatty, John Mowlem, and Charles Brand and Son on the construc- tion side, and Metro-Cammell and Westinghouse Brake and Signal on the equipment side.
