Secretary in that he thought the project would
be too expensive for Hong Kong. Unless the
Government of Hong Kong is prepared to support
t ́be
the project it will, of course, not be proceeded
with further and we shall have to wait until
their decision is known.
3. One reason why the Financial Secretary
is doubtless looking at, this proposal very
carefully is the comparatively short length of
between time left completion of the project and
the terminati
tion of the lease of the New
Territories in Hong Kong in 1997. If the Hong
Kong Government accept that, despite this limited period, the scheme will be a viable one, I think
we can be quite sure that it will be worth
supporting.
