The possibility of the development of Kwai Chung into a future

container terminal was taken a stage further day.

In a notice in the Gazette, the Government announced its

intention to invitę tenders for the grant of leases of Crown land or

Crown Foreshore and Sea Bed at Kwai Chung. To prepare for the issue

of tender documents, notices have been posted as required by the Public

Reclamations and Works

rks Ordinance and the Foreshores and Seabed Ordinance.

▲ Government spokesman said publication under both these

Ordinances was necessary to enable the Government to invite tenders on

two alternative baseș.

On the first basis, that covered by the Public Reclamations

and Works Ordinance, the Government would itself reclaim and form the

area and invite tenders for the formed areas.

On the second basis, that covered by the Foreshores and Seabed

Ordinance, the land would be reclaimed, formed and developed by private

interests, and the Government would invite tenders for the seabed and

foreshore.

The spokesman said the tender documents were now in an advanced
