Terminals Ltd in the interests of achieving a successful integrated
operation suggests that the No 2 berth is not now likely to be
attractive to the new service to be provided by the Far Eastern Freight
Conference. We hope that, if the new site referred to by the UK lines
can be made available, the Hong Kong Government will consider their
interest sympathetically so that the new service can adequately and
smoothly meet the interest of the trade of the UK and Hong Kong and of
the other countries concerned.

Mr Kerry St Johnston, Managing Director of OCL, will be arriving
in Hong Kong on 8 September in the course of a Far Eastern tour; he has
an appointment with Sir John Cowperthwaite at 3 p.m. on 9 September.
He will be happy to get in touch with Mr Laird if he is still in Hong Kong
then, through Butterfield and Swire, who act for them in Hong Kong, in
order to provide any additional information. Meanwhile OCL have provided
some additional background information as attached.
