Amendments to be effected to Clauses 2 and 8 of the

Draft Deportation (British Subjects) Ordinance

Clause 2

1.

In Clause 2(1) insert the following definition after the definition of "British Subject":·

Trust territory' means a territory administered by the government of any part of His Majesty's dominions under the trusteeship system of the United Nations."

Immediately after Clause 2(1) insert the following sub-clause:-

*(1A). This Ordinance shall have effect in relation to citizens of the Republic of Ireland who are not British subjects in like manner as it has effect in relation to British subjects.

In Clause 2(2):-

(a) substitute the following paragraph for paragraph (b):-

"(b) has been ordinarily resident in

コ continuously for a period of seven years or more

and since the completion of such. period of residence has not been ordinarily resident continuously for a period of seven years or more in any other(5) part of His Majesty's dominions or in Indig in the

Republic of Ireland or in any other7(5) territory

under His Majesty's protection or in any trust territory or in South West Africa; or";

(b) aclete footnote (6);

insert the words " or the British Nationality Act, 1948" after the words "the British Nationality and Status of Alions Act, 1914" in paragraph (c).

In Clause 2(3):-

(a)

insert the words "he is a British subject" after the word · "an immigrant British subject if"}

Clause 8

In Clause 8(1) substitute the words "person charged" for the word "accused" wherever it occurs.
