REPORT SHOWS RENT SITUATION IN ALL SECTORS
Effects Of Shortage
Government is urgently considering a preliminary report on the
rent situation received from the Commissioner of Rating and Valuation,
Cooke.

The information comes from routine reports of rent changes received
These involve 1,700 reports made
by the Rating and Valuation Department.
over the past eight months.
From these 1,700 cases of changes in rent, an examination has been
tenancies in those premises which were also let in 1964.

rent levels.
Owner-Occupiers Unaffected
Some of the findings of the Commissioner's report are:

Urban Hong Kong is now facing a shortage of private
accommodation.
1969 has been a poor year for the provision of accommodation
but, although the private sector is unlikely to produce very much in 1970, at the lower end the programme of public housing
seems likely to more than redress the balance.
