Royle will come to help our problems

MR. ANTHONY ROYLE - now "Hongkong's man in the British Government" will visit us soon for a first-hand look at what can be done to help our social and political problems.

The intended visit was revealed yesterday by Civic Association chief Mr. Hilton Cheong-Leen, who returned from Britain after top-level discussions with Mr. Royle.

It will be Mr. Royle's first visit to Hongkong since he Under- was appointed secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs a month ago.

Md. Cheong-Leen said had a long talk with Mr. Royle, long regarded as Hongkong's man in London, on many pressing issues, such as local government reforms and in Ombudsman.

He said Mr. Royle was very sympathetic towards the demands by the majority of the Hongkong people.

"He would like to come here to study the latest developments before deciding what action can be taken to help us," Mr. Cheong-Leen said.

He told Mr. Royle that immediate steps should be taken on local government reforms without waiting for the present Governor's term to expire.

Among Mr. Cheong-Leen's proposals were:

Four Unofficial Urban Councillors to be appointed to the Education Board;
