Mr. Gaminara
I have perused the various pieces of legislation provided by the Library concerning the admission and control of members of the bar in various Commonwealth countries. I suggest that the Hong Kong Government be now informed that the legislation in various Commonwealth countries including New Zealand, some of the states of Australia and Jamaica has been perused, but no legislation has been found setting up a body in any way similar to the Inns of Court here.
In all cases that have been considered the admission of barristers to practise has been controlled either by the court or by a Committee of a local Law Society or Bar Association, and disciplinary control has been invested in a disciplinary committee, generally being a committee of such a Society or Association; in one case the committee included judges of the Supreme Court.
2.
I do not think it is necessary in fulfilling your undertaking to the Governor to draw attention to any particular provision of the legislation that has been studied; I would think it likely that the Attorney-General's Law Library in Hong Kong contains
laws of various Commonwealth countries.
3. Will you return the enclosed bundle of legislation to the Library?

The Library has now produced copies of legislation for a number of commonwealth countries. For the most have these affear to regulate the admission of beristeos and soliciters.
Hongkong already has the Legal Practitioners Orduanco (Vol.7, cap. 189) which contests the admission and
conderd of barristers and solicitors.
