Appointinent's from Hong Kong Pour to the Supreus Court Beach,

Mr. de Bast's wrote to hard Shepherd livece in 1969 about appointments totter Beuch from the Bar and Lord Shepherd's Aunver is it (25) in which he promised to keep Mode Basto's ruios in mind.

act (42)

The matter was discissed with the Governor by Sis J. Ma Petrie) during the former's leave in November 1969 and it was agreed that it might occasionally be desirable to afforint from the Bar but such appointment would be very exceptional, at might~ be more acceptable to the Judicial Service if such an op poretinend were made at a time when there were two or more vacancies on the Reuce and this will arise in 1972 when both sir 1. Rugby and Me Blair keer will be retiring.

A short reply from the Governor to Mr. de Bast's would Scam the best way of dealing with this. While we could not say that an athontiment will actually be made from the Bay, it would be accurate to pomise that the watter will be consideral where appoutuned to the Bench are mande in the future.

Draft Letter to the Governor with draft reply to two de Bart's.
