PREVENTION OF BRIBERY BILL 1970
To Be Presented To Council On October 21
Tough now measures to combat corruption in Hong Kong are contained
in an amended Bribery Bill which will be presented to the Legislative
Council next Wednesday, October 21, by the Attomey General.
The Prevention of Bribory Bill, 1970 with an explanatory memorandum
is published in the Gazette today for general information.
The draft bill differs little from the proposals published in
July last year, though those have been modified in some minor respects,
following consideration of public comment and of suggestions made by
individuals and organisations, including the Bar Association, the Lav:
Society, the Exchange Banks Association and the three main Civil Servico
Staff Associations.
After careful consideration of the various arguments put forward,
it has been decided that the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Royal Hong Kong
Police Force should continue to be responsible for the detection and investigation
of corruption.
