My dear David
Hong Kong Defence Contribution.
I should be most grateful if you could give me an indication of when you expect to be in a position to reply to my letter to you of 9 October, 1969 on this subject.
We sent you with the Secretary of State's Saving despatch No.126 of 10 April some additional information in response to your letter to me of 2 February and we had a brief word with John Cowperthwaite on the subject when he was last in the Office here. I hope that you now have sufficient data to complete your examination of the subject, at any rate to the extent of enabling you to let us have the views asked for in paragraphs 7 and 8 of my letter of 9 October. It does not look as though we can hope to carry matters further at this end until we have this, but, if you still require further information, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Sir David Trench, G.C.M.G., M.C.,
Government House,
Hong Kong
Yours
