1.
Ministerial approval has now been given to deferring the
move of the Battalion in Brunei. to Hong Kong until 31 May 1971,
and to the early move of 10 GR from Penang to Hong Kong at the
end of November 70.
2. The FCO are unable to inform the Sultan of Brunei of this
decision until 9 September 1970 and have decided to defer
informing the Malaysian Government until that date when both
Governments can be informed simultaneously. Therefore this.
information should not be passed to the Battalions concerned ·
at present, though their Commanding Officers can be informed
in confidence.
3.
Meanwhile you should make arrangements to maintain the force level in Hong Kong at six and two thirds major units
from within your command until the arrival of 10 GR.
