Mr. Rippon said that his visit to Hong Kong in

September had given him valuable background infor-

mation about the state of the Colony. At the

territories under Part IV of the Treaty of Rome,

the exception to this was Hong Kong, where the Six

had agreed to discuss the position in depth. We

had left our application for association for Hong

Kong on the table. Mr. Rippon said that he had

also referred to the question of Hong Kong's position

under the Generalised Preferences Scheme.

grateful for this opportunity to discuss the position

of Hong Kong. He was also grateful for the efforts
