Hong Kong and the GATT
Consultations with Hong Kong Government officials have been arranged to be held in London from 23 November for three days. Although the Agenda for the meeting has not yet been finalised, it is certain that one of the subjects which the Hong Kong Government officials will wish to discuss is the position of Hong Kong in the GATT, should the United Kingdom enter the Common Market.
I should be grateful if you could prepare a brief on this subject for the consultations. To assist in this, I enclose extracts from the minutes of the last round of consultations held with Hong Kong Government officials in 1967.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Michael Perceval in Trade Policy Department of the FCO with whom you will doubtless be in touch about the brief.
