Thank you for your letter of 10 July.
I was
very glad to have an early statement of the views of
your Association on Hong Kong's position in our
neogitations for entry to the European Communities,
and your kind offer of assistance.
The Government is of course very conscious of
the problems of Hong Kong as a dependent territory
of the U.K., and will be bearing them in mind during
the forthcoming negotiations.
I should be glad to have an opportunity to meet
you, as you suggest in your letter, to discuss this
question and to hear your views on the problems raised
for Hong Kong. However, at present, as you will
imagine, my programme is a very busy one and I fear
| I man,
I must ask you to defer a meeting until the autumn.
I will get in touch with you in September in order
to fix a date for such a meeting.
