follow suit. We ourselves hope to get rid of our few remaining restraints on imports from Japan, in return for a wide measure of liberalisation on their side; but this deal could hardly go ahead if at the same time the Americans put new restrictions on Japan.
We hope strongly that these issues can continue to be handled in the GATT in accordance with principles that have stood all in good stead.
