The policy of the previous Government. in regard to introduction of tariffs on cotton textiles with effect from 1 January, 1972 has not been actually confirmed by the present Government but, in paragraph 4 of attached minute of 12 October from the Minister of Technology to the Prime Minister, it appears that the intention is to continue with the same policy. I understand from Commodities Department that the President of the Board of Trade wrote to an M.P. in August telling him that the previous Government's policy would be continued in regard to the import of cotton textiles.
