18th September, 1970.
We spoke about a newscast put out by RTV Hong Kong on 9th September which contained the following item, apparently drawn from U.P.I. sources
"Britain and the Six member countries of the
European Economic Community have unanimously turned down Malaysia's application to become an associate member. According to the London correspondent of "Straits Times" the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have intimated to the Malaysian High Commissioner that Britain disapproves of the application because it may affect Britain's entry to the Common Market."
This does not make sense and I wonder if you could, off the record, throw any light on the real situation.
