Mr E. O. Laird, Hong Kong Department, F.C.O.

Mr G. F. Kinnear, Hong Kong Department, F.C.O.

Mr Jenkins stated that, while previously salaries

paid to aircraft technicians in Hong Kong compared

favourably with United Kingdom rates of pay, the sit-

uation had changed over the last three years and Hong

Kong salaries were now less than those obtainable in

the United Kingdom. His Union therefore considered

that negotiations should be entered into with Hong Kong

Aircraft Engineering Co., Limited for an agreement for

higher pay for the members of his Union employed by the

Company.

Mr Jenkins explained that great care had been taken

to register/ the Hong Kong branch of A.S.T.M.S. as a

Union under the Hong Kong law and that when he visited

Hong Kong in October, 1969, he had met Mr Wakeford, the

General Manager of HAECO, who assured him that, once the

Union was registered under Hong Kong, he would be pre-
