Dear Ben,
HONG KONG AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING CO LTD
I had a most useful meeting with officials at the Foreign Office in London today. They say that we are doing everything precisely in accord with the policy of the Government of the United Kingdom and of Hong Kong.
So they are happy to help us to resolve the present problem and will be tendering advice to the Government of the Colony.
It was suggested that I should:
(1) write to Mr Wakeford
I attach a copy.
which I have now done and
(2) that you should then seek a meeting with Mr Wakeford
to discuss my letter.
(3) if this does not produce the required result you should
then formally declare a dispute to the Commissioner of Labour.
(4) this would then result in a meeting between you and
your colleagues and the company's representatives.
(5) we would all anticipate that this sequence of events would effectively resolve the problem but if it doss not, I would stand ready to come to Hong Kong to assist in the matter.
I personally have little doubt that when this exercise has been worked through it will result in a sensible solution.
So will you be good enough to do this and keep me in touch
With all best wishes,
Х
Yours sincerely,
