In the field of Outerwear knitting (suits, shirts, slacks, childrens wear, gloves and hats) there are 42 members of the Federation of Knitted Outerwear Exporters in Taiwan and their export rose from 2 million dollars in 1966 to 20 million dollars in 1968, to occupy a third place in the list of industrial exports. The general knitting industry includes "T" shirts, Underwear, Sportswear, Shirts, Jumpers, Cardigans and Gloves. In 1951 this industry was not exporting at all but by 1967 they had reached the stage of exporting over 10 million American dollars worth of garments, thus showing the very rapid growth in this field.

The Taiwan Sock Knitting Association has 34 members. In 1951 they were not exporting and by 1967 they were exporting 863,000 American Dollars worth of goods.

It is anticipated that there will be established, as a non-profit making organisation, a Taiwan Textile Testing Centre. This facility will meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and will be authorised to grant the internationally acknowledged Wool Mark to qualified manufacturers.
