Thank you for letting me know that Philip Haddon-Cave will succeed Sir John Cowperthwaite in April 1971. I am glad
that a firm decision has been made continued uncertainty could
have been damaging.

You may certainly take it that we will receive Haddon-Cave and do all we can to help. The time suggested would not seem to raise any special difficulties though it would,
I suggest, be a good thing to have the Fund/Bank Annual Meeting
out of the way before we take him on here.
I am copying this letter to Alastair Mackay.
Naturally nearer the time we and the Treasury will have to
dovetail our programmes. I certainly think he could usefully put in a fortnight

maybe three weeks - with us and in the City.
In the meantime rest assured the news of the
succession will be treated in the strictest confidence.
