Sir Stanley asked Mr. Ma

whether he had had any reports of Mr. Morgan's visit. 10. Mr. Ma said that he had received a report of Mr. Morgan's conversations with responsible officials in Western European Department and Protocol Department.

11. Mr. Ma went on to say that he wished to raise two other matters. In May this year he had discussed with Mr. Morgan the question of Nos. 49 and 51 Portland Place. He would like to have our help over difficulties which had arisen in connection with these buildings. Both buildings were old and dangerous . The Chinese Office

would like to demolish them and rebuild. Because the

buildings were of historical value, restrictions had been placed on the changes which could be made to the outside structure and the height. Now the Chinese Office would like to demolish them and rebuild them in accordance with their requirements.

12. Mr. Ma said that the second thing he wished to

mention was in connection with the Commercial Counsellor's

residence at 6 Gloucester Gate. The building was very old and was on a short lease which would expire in 1972. It was difficult to find a new place. The Commercial Counsellor was moving to 42 Maida Vale and he would like to inform Sir Stanley of this change of address,
