Infectious hepatitis can cause cirrhosis of liver but this was not in this
case that the cirrhosis of liver of the deceased was caused by this infectious
has
hepatitis. It is possible that a person who had cirrhosis of liver lives a
normal life. The result of the second test of blood indicated the deceased
was getting worse. I directed him to be sent to Queen Mary Hospital on
20/12/69. He died in Hospital on 29/12/69.
In infectious hepatitis, there is no specific treatment by
medicine. The only thing is to let the patient rest with suitable diet
and vitamin. If the infections persists for several days, certain drugs may be
used. On the 20/12/69, I discovered that his condition was getting serious.
He was sent to Queen Mary Hospital. Usually the blood is checked in regular
interval in a period of 8 10 days to see whether the condition is improving
or not.
Jury cross examination: Infectious hepatitis is caused usually by the
contaminated food. The virus can usually enter the body by improperly
sterilised syringe. The infectious hepatitis would exaggerate the cirrhosis
of liver. The incubation period of infectious hepatitis can be as long as
4 months, the maximum.
