Diplomatic Service some 200 officers (out of

a total of about 1,900 in the Administrative

and Executive grades) who have experience of

the Dependent Territories, mainly but not

exclusively from having served in the HMCCS

or similar Services, before joining the

Diplomatic Service. It would be sensible if

the Diplomatic Service continued to make use

of this experience and we shall do so.

In addition we are already arranging for

limited number of secondments from the

Diplomatic Service to administrative appoint-

ments in the Dependent Territories where this

makes sense in terms of the overall career

patterns of the officers concerned.
