For Kaitak runway extension

"USE OUR UK RESERVES'

help finance the Kaitak runway

WO Urban Councillors today urged the Government to use Hong- kong's reserves in London to help finance the Kaitak runway extension.

Mrs Elsie Elliott and Mr A, de O, Sales both agreed that to continue to press the British Gov- ernment to lend us the needed money was be- coming too much like "begging."

Mr Sales said if Britain hesitated much longer, we should challenge the Government on a dollar- for-dollar basis,

"It has been drawn out far too much aiready," he said,

"Hongkong can afford to do this because it has

a large cash reserve in London, anyway.

"If the British Government does not meet the challenge, then we should devise ways of fin- ancing the extension without its help."

But Mrs Elliott said there was no reason why we should even bother with the British Govern- ment's help.

"We are not beggars," she said, "We have enough money in London.”
