SUDAN GOVERNMENT PENSIONS ORDINANCE, 1904

1. Pensions payable to officers and dependants.

2. The officers are required to contribute 4% or 5% of salary according to class of

officer which is determined by the parents domicile at the officer's birth.

Class "A" officers are normally "local" officers and Class "B" officers generally "non locals".

3. Pension based on average salary over last 3 years and length of service.

4. Retirement with pension after age 55 (Class A) age 45 (Class B).

Pension 1/60 of salary for each year (Class A); 1/48th of salary for each year (Class B); maximum 2/3rds average salary with limit of £E1,500.

6. Widow with children gets 1/2 officers pension; single dependant gets 1/4.

In absence of precise provision assume contributions paid into revenue and pensions paid from revenue.

GOVERNMENT PENSIONS ORDINANCE 1922

Amends the 1904 and 1919 Ordinances by providing that in assessing the pensions due to or in respect of officers who retire on or after 1 August 1919 the officers salary shall be considered as increased by 20%.

a. SUDAN GOVERNMENT LONDON OFFICE PENSIONS SCHEME OF 7 DECEMBER 1925

This is a contributory scheme for the permanent staff of the London Office. Contributors paid 5% of salary and the Government 7% of salary and the pensions were secured by deferred annuity policies granted by the Atlas Assurance Co Ltd at age 65.

2. We do not know how many officers are involved in the Scheme.

In 1962 only one

pension was in payment.
