LEGAL REPORT
Enclosure No. 2
THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE 1969.
(No. 15 of 1969)
The purpose of this Ordinance is to enlarge the power of the Chief Justice to make rules relating to the granting of legal aid in criminal cases. The new section 9A will enable rules to be made requiring an aided person to make contributions towards the cost of legal aid in a criminal case and assessing his disposable resources for this purpose. The section is similar in terms to section 28 of the Legal Aid Ordinance, which relates to the granting of legal aid in civil cases.
Before His Excellency the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, I advised that he could properly do so.
