The Governor of Hong Kong has asked that we contact you to ascertain whether Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra would consent to receive Nr. 3. C. Eates, C.M.G., M.V.O. retiring Commissioner of Police in Hong Kong.
r. Eates would like to call for, say, ten to fifteen minutes to express the Police Forces' great appreciation of the honour accorded by Her Royal Highness's acceptance of the appointment of Honorary Commandant General and by so calling to establish the link created by this appointment.
With regard to timing Mr. Gates has suggested that if possible a call before 4 September would be appropriate, as he retires from the Police Force with effect from that date (although we feel this need not be an overriding consideration). Possibly if an appointment could be arranged between Her Royal Highness's return from Singapore and Thailand and before her departure for Swaziland, that would be very convenient. Mr. Eates is living in Devon and can easily come up to London.
I should be grateful if you would approach Her Royal Higness accordingly.
