6 August, 1969

When you saw Bunny Carter on 23 July you discussed with him the matter of your proposed call on Princess Alexandra, about which I wrote to you on 11 July.

We have since been trying to arrange with Kensington Palace for you to call on Her Royal Highness some time during the middle of August between the visits which she will be paying to the Far East and to Swaziland. However, we have now learned that Princess Alexandra will not be able to see you before her departure for Swaziland and, in fact, she has such a very heavy programme on her hands, which extends right up to October, that it is unlikely that your visit will be able to take place before November.

At the suggestion of Kensington Palace we have left the matter in their hands and they have undertaken to get in touch with us again in due course.

It is unfortunate that we have been unable to arrange a call before your retirement from the Royal Hong Kong Police Force on 4 September, but this is not in reality a fact of any great significance, May we take it that you will be available to pay the proposed call on Her Royal Highness in November and that we shall be able to get in touch with you at your present address at any time betwee: now and then should it prove possible to advance the date of your call in any way?
