Mr. Godden.
Mr. Brighty.
A reply is required to the letter at from 10 Downing Street. Mr. Gregson last wrote to Lieutenant Commander Lynch Maydon on this subject on the 20th September but I do not know if the latter has since written further to Mr. Gregson.
2.
We discussed this matter with the Governor, in conjunction with the Far Eastern Department at the end of October and a record of the discussion is at (1). We have since been waiting to learn more about the projected visit of the Hong Kong Police Band to this country, and it appears from (4) and (5) on this file that there is no possibility of such a visit for the next 2 years.
3. I imagine (although I am not sure of this) that we shall now go ahead with our submission to the Police on the basis of paragraph 18 of (1) without reference to the possibility of a visit by the Hong Kong Police Band.
4.
I attach a draft reply for Mr. Brighty to send to Mr. Gregson. I am passing this file through Mr. Godden.
