There appears to be no reason

why Lieutenant Commander Lynch Maydon

should not now be informed,

in

confidence, that we have now put

a proposal to the Palace about the

title of the Hong Kong Police and

auxiliary Police Forces. I attach

a draft, the lines of which have

been agreed generally by Lord

Shepherd.

The Prime Minister may wish to

know that when Lord Shepherd saw

Anthony Royle M.P. yesterday he

took the opportunity to mention

this matter and the latter undertook

to speak to Lieutenant Commander

Lynch Maydon and to persuade him/to refrain from tabling a question on

this subject.
