The foundations of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force

were laid with the formation of the Hong Kong Police Reserve in

1914. The object of the Reserve was to act in support of the

regular Police Force in maintaining law and order and protecting

life and property. It has been involved in these duties through

two World Wars and civil disturbances during peace time and its

basic aims remain unchanged.

The title of the Reserve was changed in 1959 with the

establishment of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force with a strength

of some 2,000 men. It has expanded over the years to its present

strength of about 3,200.
