I am replying to your letter of the

17th February about the Hong Kong Police

Force.

The position now reached is that'

The Queen has approved, informally, the

proposal to accord the title "Royal" to the

Hong Kong Police and Auxiliary Police Forces;

and Princess Alexandra has agreed, again

informally, to become honorary "Commandant

General" to the two Forces. We shall now

make the necessary formal submissions.

We

are also informing the Governor of Hong Kong

of the position reached and of the

Prime Minister's decision to proceed by way

of an arranged Parliamentary Question.

any Hong Kong considerations which may need
